back before deer season i bought me one of those new remington model 887 3.5" magnum 12 ga, and i go out and shoot it, and it threw a dang good pattern with buckshot, shot tight enough and hard enough to kill a deer at 75 yards, put 15 of the 18 00 pellets in a washing machine, and went through the outside tin, and some went through the inner drum, well the only downside to that gun was after a couple shots, i noticed the action was coming open when you would shoot it. took it to the store i bought it from, they send it back to remington, i get the gun back, put about a box of birdshot through it, then on about my 3rd round of buckshot it is doing it again, sent it back to remington, i get it back and it does it again, this time i take it to em, and they give me another gun the same model, i take it out, shoot it, and it does the same thing. take it back to the shop, tell em i want a model 870 3.5" magnum they tell me they don't carry the 870 in 3.5" magnum. so i pay about a hundred dollar price difference, and get a benelli nova 3.5" magnum pump camo model. i go out today and shoot it and it throws birdshot pretty good, but spreads with buckshot, and i put a load of 3.5" through it, and notice it is coming open when i shoot it, then it's doing it with birdshot, i don't know what the heck is going on with these guns nowadays, and i know it's latching because i checked every time before i shot it, thinking i'm gonna just have to break down and buy me an automatic so that way i aint gotta worry about it coming open when i shoot it.

I'm not a hunter, but, isn't it odd to hunt deer with a shotgun? Just curious...

out to 75 yards i'd rather shoot a deer with a shotgun, a 3.5" magnum load of 00buck with 18 pellets in a shell is alot deadlier than a rifle that has just one bullet, a rifle you only put one hole in him, while with a shotgun you put a bunch of holes, you break legs, you get the heart, lungs, liver, spine, etc, and it doesn;t tear up as much meat, and around here in south ms after the hurricane in 05 it tore down alot of the big trees, from the tornadoes and winds from the hurricane, and it's alot of really thick brush thats grown up now, so you won't be shooting very far unless you cut shooting lanes, or you hunt a pipeline, or powerline, logging road, creek or riverbank etc. plus i do some dog hunting, and when you got a deer running by you with a pack of hounds on his azz you want something you can hit him with and load him down with lead.. very rarely do i shoot a deer with buckshot and it not fall right there...
