tack hook up?

I asked this question before but now I have a new twist. I'm putting a auto meter tack in my 440 RR and it does not work, got power to it , because when you turn the key to run the needle goes to zero, but when you fire it up the tack stays at zero. A friend of my son's says it might be the coil, it's a MSD Blaster 2. When you look in the Summit book they give a different number if you have stock ing. or MSD. I have stock so he thinks with the Blastor 2 coil and not a MSD box that is why my tack doesn't work.Anybody run into this? I know the tack works, at least it did when it was in my drag car. I don't think it took a crap sitting on the shelf. let me know what you think!!! I can't wait till this weather breaks to get back to the track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if it is a Blaster coil, it does have a wire going to the pickup in the dist of the - side. That should be your trigger wire. On a few coil like the Crane ignition systems, the feilds produced by the coil are much stronger than most. In fact, the + and - from the Crane coil cannot go into the same conduit as they will arc thru the insulation. Point being, maybe there is another contact point along that wire that would be more suitable for the tach hookup and that maybe you will have to find an alternate route back to the gauge. Hope that will be beneficial to you. Good Luck!
