What kinda build are you looking to do? Being none to expericend on making modified engines I always try to do a best of stock rebuild. Gather stuff from over the years and any upgraded stock replacement stuff when I do my builds. They always run great with no wierd problems, good performance not super fast, decent gas milage, and easy to find replacement parts. The mopar engine book is a good guide for upgraded builds, not cutting edge but good.

I guess I'm looking to do a slightly modified rebuild. Bigger cam, upgraded components. I wish i could remember correctly, but I think the motor was bored over, but I can't recall how much....its been awhile since I got it. The main reason for the rebuild is to seal it up tight. Had alot of leakeage, from the rear main seal. I had already pulled the tranny out, so I figured what the hell, might as well do the motor too, and detail the engine bay. So I gotta lotta work ahead of me. Good thing I got a couple other Plymouths to drive. The instructions I'm looking for are more or less in case I run into something I can't figure out. This is my first complete tear down, so I want to make sure I've got some details in case I start to drown in motor oil. Thanks

There is a great book, a old book, but detailed. It is called how to overhaul, or rebuild small block mopars, or something, it isn't a Mopar book, or the same author that wrote how to hotrod......it is more along the lines of a stock overhaul.
As far as other mods, I, and a few others, have built a number of low buck 318's, that ran good, and got good MPG, and I am sure, we all would be happy to answer any questions, or recommend pieces and parts.

A couple of books are better than a single source. Small block A enines from the dealers P4876826 is a good reference. www.cartechbooks.com is a source for other books. Small block mopar engines an HP book by Don Taylor and Larry Hofer is probably the exact book you are looking for. Good luck keep posting on progress.

Got2, I am a die hard Plymouth guy also. I have been researching/tinkering with my teen for some time on plans of a full up rebuild upon my return from a bussiness trip. I have found by staying cose to stock things work great together, but mods to improve the stock stuff makes the difference. If I was you I would check out Sanborns oil mods and any type of block prep stuff to ensure longevity. A decent cam from Racer B that would work with a stock coverter would make you a nice ride. Where you will make a good running engine is basic clean up of the heads, oil mods, and making sure your piston deck highth are all evened up for consistant compression, and the ignition system (FBO) IMO would make a great set up and work together really well.

I'll check on all of these ideas. I did take about 50 pics before the removal. I'll just be glad to have it all cleaned up, and organized. The dry garage floor will be a nice change to. Thanks
