I'm in the process of insulating my garage and then I want to bring my '68 road runner in and start on a cage. I have built two cages before so I have a good idea what I'm doing, but it would be nice to see some other custom cages to get some ideas. Can anyone who has pics of a car build-up post some pics. I have photos of 340duster's duster build up that are very impressive but he took it down to the frame, our rules wouldn't allow a car like that. But still some great ideas there. Thanks.

here is one in a Neon, same idea could work on a unibody dodge too.
![]() Here is the front end of my 68 coronet, it looks nothing like this now, but I liked how I had the rad support unbolt for easy motor installs. ![]() Here is the winston cup car I bought off of ebay, get some hints there for bracing and triangulation ![]() ![]() here is my mod, made to flex, light weight, but something to look at. ![]() here is my coronet again with the body off ![]() A swinger I built, b body stub though. Light weight, not for battle. ![]() ![]() my little brothers car, a mixture of all above, lightweight and strong, on its third year, but still good, and it has even rolled over this year. Not a good picture, but door bars like my coronet and neon, front hoop like the coronet, not bolt in though, real simple, triangles, its strong and light. I would have like to have had the cage farther back, but he was 14 then, now he is 17, and getting taller by the month, hopefully we can get another year out of it. ![]() Hope this helps, it is all the pictures I have of dodge race cars of mine. |

I have to say that unless that '68 Road Runner is already a circle track car or totally junk, you would be wise to sell it and find another car. The parts from that body are worth enough to finance your new car. You would be amazed at what stuff brings at the Mopar Nats in Ohio every year.
The chassis are exactly the same for a '68 B-body 4 door car. The floor pans are the same, the chassis is the same and the only difference is the rear door area. Please don't kill a '68 Road Runner. I did this back in the early '80's and regret nearly every day that I did it. ![]() |

Petty, it was built in 92, what would that have been, a pontiac, dont know. I bought it without a body. Putting a 70 dart body on it when I get the time, till then it sits in the shed, along with a half finished coronet. Cant figure out why I dont have the time, or is it the money, one of those two anyway.

340 King, Ive cut up several 68-70 2 door B bodys. One was a solid 69 coronet that I bought in 95. by after leting it sit 4 years and thinking about what to do it wasnt good for anything but a race car. By todays standards it was still quite fixable and in that shape valuable, but even 10 years ago not worth much. It bothers me more that I ended up making my first "muscle car" , a 74 charger into a race car. But that car was a basket case. If it's a real road runner it may be worth a good chunk for restoration. if not , and its rusty enough that the body panels arent resto parts he can probably remove the trim and other value parts and make as much and still have a good chassis for a race car.

It's not a real road runner, it's a satellite I think. I don't think it's restorable. there is no interior, no glass, no good wiring, no good fenders, rusted rockers, some front suspension is missing. The K-frame is for a slant 6. I brought home a '68 4 door cornet that I'm going to use for parts. I don't think I'm wasting a restorable car. I'll try to take some pics and post them.

slant six K frame, must be rare, I thought back then they were all the same, but I could be wrong.
I remember my first b body k frame, I had never seen a b body so I had no idea what I was doing, but I found a wrecked one and pulled the k frame out of it, it had a funky skid plate on the bottom side and a sway bar, I had no clue what I had. LOL wrecked that thing bad. I had it sitting in my scrap trailer when a serious dodge guy stops by and tells me what it was. Defiantely big block car, maybe hemi but doubt it, none the less, hemi cloners payed big bucks for them back then, now you can buy that skid plate and weld it on. Its like that coronet I bought last year on ebay, 383, 4 speed was in it, he also had a dana rear in it (doubt it was factory for that car being it was a 68 with a 383), and the hood was a factory two scoop hood, but it was made into a race car, of course I didnt get the motor or trans, I really wanted the rear end, but he knew what he had there, but I tried. LOL When I raced my Coronet, I had it painted like a super bee, boy oh boy, some epeople would come down from the stands all mad at me for wrecking a super bee, That is the part I miss about stock body cars, they have character that no aluminum body will ever have. ![]() |

I have a '74 Plymouth Satellite Sebring in storage. It was a nice little 318 car from the factory. It has had three 340's and two 360's in it since then. Those velcro motor mounts sure do help.
I bought it with a Road Runner/GTX hood on it. I have the Rally dash for it and could probably come up with the other badging. I know where the VIN tag for the original RR/GTX car is also. Not being one to break the law, I haven't tried to marry the two up. Since the price of scrap metal went up, finding old cars is becoming very rare around here. All the salvage yards crushed them years ago here also. So don't under estimate the value of old stuff. ![]() |

well youre going to need fenders and door skins, But that car would make a great race car. some people may freak that "Your wrecking a restoreable car" I say its your car do what you want with it and eff em if they don't like it. It has rot in the lower quarters, im guessing it would need a trunk pan, and its rusted below the back window. for a non optioned car that = junk or race car That 4 door is pure ugly! It could be made into a decent race car, sadly its not good for much else.

Fenders and doors: I work at a sheet metal shop, I have made new fenders, doors etc every year for my Duster, no problem. I think the Cornet front fenders would fit if I needed them, I see the hood is the same, that's good I don't think I want to build the hood.

probably not the same, but it will work. the doors will be simple to make. I made a right fender for mine once. it wasn't pretty but it worked

This is my old charger and current duster. All fenders and doors on both cars I built at the shop. The charger was a little tricky and if you get close you sure can tell there not original.
