I found a donor truck that I can slide my engine into, but it's a 96 w/ a 318. Is it possible to use the existing wiring harness to connect my 95 Ram 360 engine up? If no, what needs to be done to make the conversion a success? Please help FAST!!!!! I have a small window of opportunity and I need accurate info as soon as possible. Thanks!

All you need is a 96 360 computer. Also, make sure you use a tourque converter for a 360. I believe thats all you need to do.

Wiring harness is same. You'll need he computer, flexplate and torque converter from the 360.

if you use your tranny (from the wrecked truck), all you need is the PCM.

So, since I'm removing the 318 and the transmission from the donor truck and installing my 360 from my 95 Ram, all I need is the computer from the donor truck? Wow! That sounds simple enough. I thought it would be more difficult because I thought the 96's transmission was computer controlled as opposed to the non-computer controlled tranny from my 95. The donor truck has the stock PCM, so that should work for now. My 95 has the Mopar high performance PCM...I hate to lose it in the swap, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
Thanks guys! You Rock!! ![]() |

NewBlackDak:
I thought that 95 was OBDI and from 96 to present is OBDII which would mean the wiring harness and PCM's are NOT the same. Eddie |

I think that in 97 they started that B.S. with computer controlled tranys. If you look in MPP catalog, theirs parts for up to 96 on the tranys. I don't about you, but if I need a computer to work on a vehicle, I don't want anything to do with it.

There were a number of major changes from 95 to 96. 96 was the first year for OBDII & the electronic governor in the trans. NewBlakDak is right, that's all you should need if your NOT changing the trans.(but you HAVE to use a 96, 360 pcm) Some of the sensors might have different connectors, but you should be able to swap them over.
If you swap both the engine & trans from the 95 into the 96, here's were it gets complicated. You would need to swap the wireing harness along with the pcm into the truck due to the differences in transmissions. You might run into other problems along the way to, so be prepared with wireing schematics for both years when doing this. IMO, your best & easiest bet is to use the 95 engine, into the 96 truck, with a 96 pcm & use the 96 trans. ![]() Good Luck! |
